Essential Pool Maintenance Project: June - October 2025
Investing in the future of your aquatic centre
The Fleurieu Aquatic Centre, a joint venture between Alexandrina Council and the City of Victor Harbor, is proudly managed by YMCA South Australia. The Centre will undergo essential maintenance work from 30 June to October 2025, marking a significant investment in the facility's future as it celebrates its eighth year of operation.
Why this maintenance is essential
After eight years of continuous operation serving over 183,000 visitors annually, our pools require comprehensive maintenance to ensure they remain safe, functional and enjoyable for years to come. This isn't routine maintenance – it's vital infrastructure work that will:
- Replace protective pool coatings: The epoxy coatings that keep concrete surfaces intact and safe have naturally degraded over time due to constant water and chemical exposure. New coatings will ensure surfaces remain safe for all swimmers.
- Upgrade filtration systems: Our filter media, which keeps water crystal clear and hygienic, requires complete replacement to maintain the high water quality standards our community expects.
- Maintain expansion joints: These critical components allow our pools to expand and contract with temperature changes without cracking, protecting the structural integrity of the pools.
Project timeline
Recognising the importance of pool access for our community, we've carefully scheduled the work to minimise disruption, with pools closing sequentially rather than simultaneously:
- Hydrotherapy pool: 30 June – late July 2025
- Program pool: Late July – late August 2025
- 25m lap pool: Late August – late September 2025
Each pool closure is expected to last approximately four weeks, weather permitting. The 25m and program pools will be available during both July and October school holidays.

Update 4 August 2025
Please be advised that the hydrotherapy pool, which was scheduled to reopen today (Monday, 4 August at 1:00 PM), will unfortunately remain closed a little longer as we need more time to get the pool to the optimal temperature. We can confirm that this will now be opened 5th of August 7.00am.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hydrotherapy pool tomorrow!
Update 28 July 2025
Our hydrotherapy pool works are nearing completion. The pool is scheduled to reopen on Monday 4 August at 1pm. The maintenance project is then moving to the Program (Learn to Swim) Pool.
Hydro pool operations
There will be limited space in the hydro pool between 8:30am-12pm Monday to Saturday and 4pm-6:30pm Monday to Friday as swimming lessons will be taking place in the pool while other pools undergo maintenance. The Spa seat area will be available at the following times:
- Monday to Wednesday 12pm-4pm
- Thursday and Friday 3pm-4pm
- Saturday 12pm-2pm
- Sunday 8am-2pm
The hydrotherapy pool will be unavailable during its regular closure period of 12pm-3pm Thursdays and Fridays and Sensory Hydrotherapy will return in September. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your support of our learn to swim program.
Program (Learn to Swim) pool maintenance
The Program Pool will close at 12pm on Saturday 2 August. This will allow our contractor to pump water from the Program Pool into the Hydrotherapy Pool, helping us conserve water and bring the hydro pool up to temperature more efficiently for reopening.
Update 17 July 2025
We’re pleased to share that the hydrotherapy pool maintenance is progressing well. The pool has been emptied and is currently drying, and work on the expansion joints is now underway. Our contractor is right on schedule, and we’re looking forward to reopening with improved facilities.
Update 10 July 2025
Work on the hydrotherapy pool is steadily advancing. The overflow channels have been fully prepared, with the first and second coats of epoxy coating already applied. Alongside this progress, some minor works such as replacing a few tiles and repairing the stainless steel rails are underway to ensure everything is in top condition. The balance tank is also scheduled to be drained and prepped later this week, ready for its own epoxy treatment.

No, as all lessons will continue in alternative pools. Our instructors are planning carefully to ensure lesson quality is maintained throughout the project. We anticipate a very small number of class cancellations, in which you will be emailed in advance and not charged for the lesson.
Keeping pools open sequentially ensures our community maintains access to aquatic facilities and allows us to transfer water between pools, supporting our environmental commitments.
Most work will occur behind the scenes in the filtration systems, so the pools will look similar to before – just refreshed with new coatings.
