An update on Fleurieu Aquatic Centre
Following a competitive tender process conducted by Alexandrina Council and the City of Victor Harbor, YMCA South Australia has not been selected to continue managing the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre.
Our management of the centre will conclude on 30 June 2026. From July, the centre will be operated by a new management company appointed by the Councils.
We are disappointed by this outcome. Over almost nine years, our team has built something genuinely special at this facility, and we are proud of what has been achieved together with the Fleurieu community.
Our immediate focus is on two things: ensuring a smooth transition for members and visitors, and supporting our staff through this change.
This page will be updated as more information becomes available.
For enquiries on the new operator or questions relating to 1 July onward, please email fleurieu@bluefit.com.au
What this means for you
The Fleurieu Aquatic Centre will remain open and operating as normal under YMCA management until 30 June 2026. All programs, swimming lessons, gym access, and memberships continue unchanged during this period.
We are working with the incoming operator and the Joint Venture councils to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible for members. We will share further details on memberships, direct debits, and program continuity as they are confirmed.
If you have questions in the meantime, please speak to a team member at the centre or email fleurieuaquatic@ymcasa.org.au
Our time at Fleurieu Aquatic Centre
YMCA South Australia has managed the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre since it opened in 2017. In that time, we have been privileged to play a role in the health and wellbeing of the Fleurieu community.
When the centre opened, participation quickly exceeded all expectations. Membership, swimming lesson enrolments, and annual visits all surpassed the original business case projections, and have continued to grow. Today, more than 183,000 people come through the doors every year.
Through independently verified social value modelling, the centre delivers more than $3 million in community health and wellbeing benefits annually, with $9.8 million in cumulative social value generated over the past three years.
The centre has maintained a Net Promoter Score above 70 for four consecutive years, reflecting the trust and satisfaction of its members. In 2020, FAC was awarded Best Rural Industry Contribution by Parks & Leisure SA/NT. Our swimming teachers have been recognised with AustSwim SA awards, and our staff have represented the centre on the global stage through the World YMCA Change Agent Program.
We are deeply proud of every one of these achievements. They belong to the staff, members, and community who made them happen.
Thank you, Fleurieu. It has been an honour.
Frequently Asked Questions
The centre is owned by the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council through a Joint Venture Agreement. The councils conducted a competitive tender process for a new management contract, and YMCA South Australia’s submission was not selected. We respect the Councils’ decision, even though we are disappointed by the outcome.
YMCA SA’s management of the centre concludes on 30 June 2026. The new operator will take over from July 2026.
No. The Fleurieu Aquatic Centre is not closing. It will continue to operate under new management from July 2026. All regular programs are expected to continue at the facility.
Your membership and access to the centre remain unchanged until 30 June 2026. We are working with the incoming operator and the councils to clarify how memberships will be handled after the transition. We will update this page and contact members directly once we have confirmed details.
Your direct debit arrangements with YMCA SA will cease when our management ends on 30 June 2026. We will provide further details on timing and process as they are confirmed. If you have specific questions about your billing, please contact the centre.
Swimming lessons will continue to run as normal until 30 June 2026. We expect the incoming operator to continue delivering swimming programs at the centre. Details about lesson enrolments, class continuity, and any changes after 30 June will be communicated as they become available.
We understand this is a significant concern for the community. The incoming operator has indicated they will contact current staff to discuss ongoing employment opportunities. YMCA South Australia is also supporting affected staff through redeployment opportunities across our other sites and programs, and through our Employee Assistance Program.
Reciprocal access to other YMCA-managed centres is a benefit of your YMCA membership and will remain available until 30 June 2026. After that date, as the centre will no longer be managed by YMCA SA, reciprocal access will no longer apply to Fleurieu Aquatic Centre memberships.
The new operator will be BlueFit Group, appointed by the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council.
