Centre Manager Updates

Member Newsletter #3

Greetings to our valued Members,

I trust this update finds you and your loved ones safe and well.

Another fortnight of COVID-19 isolation is history and I hope this time is passing quickly and without too much stress. We can’t wait for the go-ahead to re-open the centre for you.

We are now seeing restrictions ease in some parts of the country and South Australian authorities continue to assess how and when we can re-engage with you.

The Victor Harbour and Alexandrina communities remain positive and motivated to get back to normal as quickly as possible and preparations are well advanced.

In partnership with both Councils we continue to prepare to re-open and, hand in hand with this, we are developing changes to the Centre experience to ensure the safest possible environment from the start. These changes will include distancing measures, reduced occupancies and strict cleaning protocols.

With a 175-year legacy of supporting Australians through events such as the Spanish Flu, two World Wars, the great Depression and, more recently, the Global Financial Crisis, the YMCA has a unique insight into the impacts of global crises on communities. We want you to know that we’re here and committed to assist you in any way we can.

Finally, everyone at the Centre would like to wish all mums a Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday. Stay safe and please contact us if you need support.

Hello from your friends at Fleurieu Aquatic Centre 22.04.20

To our valued Members,

I hope you and your families are safe and well.

As we continue to navigate our way through the ever changing landscape of the community shutdown due to coronavirus, we are keen to continue to reach out, stay connected and provide you with information on what’s happening around the Centre and the community.

We need to focus on positive engagement and this is a time when we can reconnect with family and friends through social media. Also talk to older members of the community who grew up without technology and you may find some old ways of staying active and fit without a screen.

Now is also a time to support the local businesses that remain open and make sure that vulnerable community members are safe and supported – just a quick ‘are you okay?’ is often all that is required.

We hope you are still enjoying the free Les Mills on Demand access and continuing, where possible, to stay physically active. We would love you to share your ideas on how to stay active at this time – tag us in on Facebook and let us know what you’re up to.

Stay safe and please contact us if you need support.

A message from our Centre Manager 10.04.20

To our loyal and valued members,

Firstly, I hope that you and your loved ones are safe, healthy and managing your time at home in the best possible way.

As your local YMCA, we are doing all we can to care for our people, customers and the communities we serve during this difficult time.

The social isolation requirements of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on our local region – basically the community is closed! Even social media is quieter than usual and we should not underestimate the impact of this isolation, especially on older and more vulnerable members of the community.

A side effect of the current situation has been a big reduction of volunteers to help service older and less able community members. Services including Meals-on-Wheels and local charity visits have been put under pressure and they have called out for people to help with any time or aid that they can. This is a time when we all need to help.

The closure of the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre has also had a big impact on social activity and I want to assure all members that we will reopen and re-engage at the centre as soon as possible.

I also want to encourage all members to take advantage of our Les Mills On-demand platform and access the classes available exclusively to members.

The YMCA remains engaged and active with the latest information on the COVID-19 pandemic and I can assure you that we are planning our recovery strategies with a focus on staff, our members and our local community.

While we are unable to provide you with personal service through our centres at this time, we will stay in touch with ways to remain engaged with your health and wellness until we reopen.

We’ll also be bringing news and tips most relevant to you, along with a little inspiration and motivation - things we all need right now.

Please keep up to date with the latest here on our website or on Facebook.

Please contact us if you need any support during this time.
